Multimedia products generally have two functional modes: development and delivery. In the development mode, multimedia products depend on a variety of function to create and edit text and graphics, capture and digitize audio and video, and assemble content into comprehensive products. Delivery depends on the ability to present text, graphics and video, generate sound, and respond to inputs by users to control the flow of a presentation. In both cases, the multimedia product must be able to access hardware to locate content or some applications, control a sound board, or manage a video capture and compression device. Controlling these devices to develop and deliver multimedia product is, for modern operating systems , a function of both the application software and the operating system.
