On 12 January the Haiti was struck by an earthquake. Haiti is a Caribbean country. The destruction was intense. The death toll continues to rise and around 3 million people are struggling with the widespread destruction. The people are looking for the support. Its epicenter was near the town of Leogane. The earthquake caused major damage to Port-au-Prince, Jacmel and other settlements in the region. Many notable landmark buildings were significantly damaged. Communications were widely disrupted, thus making it impossible to get a full picture of damage as powerful earthquake shook a desperately poor country where many buildings are flimsy. Electricity was out in some places. The buildings collapsed. One could see the number of bodies spread on the street. There had been a serious loss of life. It is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
