WHAT A MEETING(UNDERWATER)

MALDIVES became the first city to hold the underwater meet, some may call a publicity stunt while others may call as a political demonstration. It was done by President of Maldives” Mr.Mohamed Nasheed” who decided to hold the first underwater cabinet meet, but this was not done for creating any record or any kind of political or publicity stunt but this was done to bring down the focus of the entire world on the giant and massive issue of global warming along with continuous effect of climate change on the lying islands.

20 meters under the water, cabinet meeting was conducted donning full scuba sitting at the desks surrounded by coral reefs using hand signals(SOS).All the member of this meet took scuba diving lessons in order to be the part of the underwater meeting. The Maldives President made is in the news since last november when he announced that he is going to relocate 300,000+ Maldivians along with India,Srilanka and Australia to the safety of other countries.

To make this plan working Maldives would imposed green tax on tourists  to buy a new country by starting a sovereign wealth fund. The Maldives President wants his country to be the first one to go carbon neutral by 2020. Nasheed says if poor country like his own country can accomplish it,why not the wealthy nations of the world.Maldives has 1,190 islands out of which only 200 islands are inhabited and across the Indian Ocean it stretches  for 90,000 square kilometers. It is lowest lying country with average elevation of four feet and is most vulnerable to climate change.Effort done by Maldives is not only appreciable but shows the concern of the country towards the changing climate, world got to be awake before we have no place left to call “world”.
