To experience the usefulness of SWOT analysis, try answering the following questions :
Strengths
1. What are your advantages?
2. What do you well?
Consider this from your own point of view and from the point of view of the people you deal with. Do not be modest but be realistic. If you are having any problem with this, try writing down a list of your attributes. Some of these will hopefully be strengths!
Weaknesses
To identify your weakness, answer the following :
1. What could be improved?
2. What is done badly?
3. What should be avoided?
4. Again this should be avoided?
5. Do your colleagues do any better?
It is best to be realistic now, and encounter and accept any unpleasant truths as soon as possible.
Opportunities
To identify your opportunities , answer the following :
1. Where are the potential career openings in your line of profession?
2. What are the interesting trends you look forward in your profession?
Remember useful opportunities can come from such things as :
Changes in technology and markets on both a broad and narrow scale
Changes in government policy related to your field
Changes in social patterns,population profiles,lifestyle changes or local events
Threats
To identify your threats, answer the following :
1. What obstacles do you face currently in your study program?
2. What are the potential problems related to IT industry, which might crop up in future?
3. Are the required specifications for the IT jobs, products or services changing?
4. Is changing technology becoming a threat to your career?
Carrying out this analysis is will often be illuminating-both in terms of pointing out what needs to be done, and in putting problems into perspective.
