Buying tv LCD, LED or Plasma, HD ready or Full HD

Search above terms on Internet and you will get thousands of results with reviews spanning to few pages.  Read any article and you will get same points every where. But do a normal buyer ( not techno aware) really need to know those many details. I spent some weeks before purchasing one at my home.

I am providing quick points to decide which to buy.

1. Best picture Quality -  Plasma wins over LED and LCD

2.  Size  – LCD is Thinner than Plasma and LED is Thinner than LCD.

3. Power Consumption : LED consumes less than LCD and LCD less than Plasma.

4. Price – LED is heavily priced than LCD And Plasma’s.  Plasma’s are cheaper than LCD And LED. LCD is cheaper than LED.

I decided to go for Plasma. LCD was out of picture and LED is better than LCD in all respect except the price ( and LED is the next refinement to LCD). The main reason to go for Plasma was  the Picture quality and other display related feature’s which are far superior than LCD and LED. Size isn’t really bulky than that of LCD And LED. The only point to consider was power consumption. The prices for LED are 35% to 50% more than Plasma’s. So if we consider the power (electricity) bills for next 10-15 years that would easily cover the price difference between Plasma and LED.

Another Point was to HD ready or  Full HD

Full HD’s are priced more than HD Ready TV’s.  The main difference is the Picture quality that you get with Full HD. Its true that Full HD gives you better quality than HD ready but at more price. However the picture quality is based on Viewing distance from TV. So if you are watching TV upto a certain distance you can observe the Picture quality difference. But if you are moving beyond that its difficult to find any difference between HD Ready and Full HD picture.

So I went for HD ready which was costing INR 10K less than Full HD. I bought Panasonic 42, HD ready Plasma.

A final comparison would be direct price difference in terms of actual numbers. 40” LED Full HD was was priced around 64k while 42” Plasma Full HD was costing around 48K. And same with HD ready costs me 36.5K.
