..HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX..
Human development index was established in 1990 .the united nations
development programme presented a human development report.
there are mainly 3 indicators:
*Health
*Knowledge
*Standara of living.
-Health-it is considered by studying the life expectancy at the birth
of a child and how long the child will live his healthy life.
(longetivity).
-Knowledge-the litreacy rate of the population of 15 years of age and
above.the total number of students going to school and colleges as a
proportion of number of students going to school and colleges.
-Standard of living-standard of living mainly depends on the per
capita income.for calculating per capita income of any country its
national income is calculated in terms of american currencies..
- it has value between 0 and 1.
in the year 1960 india’s rank in human development index was 139 and
in the year 2004 its rank was 127..
the concept of measuring development with rate of growth of income was
criticised severly.
the proponents of the human development index concept have also
included other ideas in it.they include the gender equality index and
the human poverty index.
after attempting to measure the human development at international
level , efforts are being made in india to construct the human
development indices for various states..
Conclusion-thuus the above topic refeers to human development index
and its 3 indicators viz. health.knowledge and standard of living!
..Human Development Index..
management
management is a required process in businees.it is required at all the
levels of business.generally there are 3 levels of business:
top level
middle level
bottom level
top level management:
generally cheif executive officers, general manager, managing director
works here.the has to act as trustees of business and take important
decisions in the business….they had to see afer the midlle level
mangement and bottom level management..they has to abide by the labour
laws and disburse the earnings from the profitamong the workers.
they also has to select executives…
middle level management:
this is the link between top level and middle level management.its
main and imporatant function is to maintain harmonious and healthy
relationship between top level and middle level management.it has to
obey the orders of the CEO..and to attain the workings of the sub
ordinates.it has to even prepare different plans and budget and
present it before the top level management.it also has to help top
level management in decision making!!
bottom level management:
it is the last level of management.in some of the big industries there
are sub ordinate level also.this bottom level is also known as
functional level management..it has to get the orders of working,
prograammes, from the sectional office.it has to take care about its
routine work and also about the transferrs, promotion, development and
trainings of the employees..
management shows proper directions and guidance to the industries and
business enterprises.it decides the policies and administration
implements it..thus it works at the top level…
conclusion:thus the above mentioned is the defination of management
and its three levels….
Google Page Rank.
Google page rank:
PageRank is Google’s primary method of ranking web pages in their index. PageRank refers to a hidden value between 1 and 10 that ranks a page based on importance.Web pages with higher page rank are thought to be more important, and thus get ranked higher than pages with lower page rank. When one web page links to another web page, they give that page some of their PageRank. This concept is what gives PageRank its power.Google looks at this link to you and gives you a higher page rank because they trust CNN.com.When Google indexes your website, they search for links to your pages, which are called backlinks. The number and quality of backlinks to your websites pages have a major impact on your PageRank. The more quality links you can get to your website, the higher your website will rank in Google Search.
According to google, PageRank is:
PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results.PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a pragmatic approach to help improve search quality and create useful products, and our technology uses the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page’s importance.
Shortcuts in google search:
Have you ever wondered how to search Google for terms inside a specific website? Or find how many sites link to yours? Below is a list of common advanced search techniques with descriptions and examples:
Search for an exact phrase:

Will return only results with the exact phrase.
Search within one website:
site:www.website.com “search phrase”
This example searches through www.website.com for the phrase “search phrase”.
Search for link to a specific website
link:www.website.com:
Will return all the websites that have a link to www.website.com.
Exclude words or phrases from search results:
search phrase -excluded
Searches for the phrase but will only return results excluding the text after the minus sign.
View a cached version of a web page:
cache:www.website.com
View a cached version of www.website.com
Search for a specific type of file:
google ebook filetype:pdf
Searches for only PDF files containing ‘google ebook’
Search for phrase only in websites’ title tag:
allintitle:”google articles”
Searches for web pages with “google articles” in the title tag.
Search for keyword only in website’s URL:
inurl:googlearticles
Searches for pages with ‘googlearticles’ in the URL, including the domain name and subdomain or page names.
These are a great way to quickly search from Google’s home page, without having to click over to the advanced search.

Thirteen ways to save Orkut
Introduction:
As nearly everyone knows, orkut is Google’s entry in the crowded “social networking” field. Orkut seems to be relying on the combination of the powerful google brand combined with an invitation-only policy to create interest in a service that otherwise would be regarded as late to the game. Like other social networking services, which are designed to connect people who want to date, make friends, or do business together, Orkut’s aim is to create an environment of technologically-enabled serendipity in which users can easily make personal connections that would otherwise be much more difficult. And like all the other social networking services, Orkut has been designed to promote a set of pre-determined behaviors instead of enabling users to do what is most interesting and useful to them. As a result, Orkut is too inflexible to succeed.
Orkut has one advantage: Unlike most services, which are focused on promoting a single type of social connection, Orkut has designed a system that will augment all aspects of users’ lives personal, social, and professional. Some commenters find this problematic, pointing out that people present different personas to different people, depending on the situation. But I think the approach is likely to be popular. For most people, managing a single service will be more attractive than the prospect of managing a different service for every aspect of their lives. But instead of trying to direct user behavior, Orkut must refocus on building an infrastructure that will enable user-directed ” Better than Realty” connections. Building pre-specified user interactions into a comprehensive service is a waste of time. Building a solid system that will enable users to connect on their own terms would set Orkut apart. Otherwise, users will move to the next social networking application as soon as it is unveiled.
In its current form, Orkut is plagued with a broken relationship model, a too-strong focus on dating, a problematic interface, and features that seem to be barely considered. Orkut must correct these faults if it wants to become the first social networking service with staying power.
1. Change the user agreement.
Orkut’s current terms— “By submitting, posting or displaying any Materials on or through the orkut.com service, you automatically grant to us a worldwide, non-exclusive, sublicenseable, transferable, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable right to copy, distribute, create derivative works of, publicly perform and display such Materials.”—are unconscionable. Individuals who are aware of these terms are unlikely to contribute anything of substantial value to their profiles or to community forums. Artists, writers, and creative people of all kinds—sought-after members of any social network, online and off—will especially be inclined to use other services with friendlier terms.
Instead, adopt the friendly and progressive terms of competitor Flickr: “We claim no intellectual property rights over the material you provide to the Flickr service. Your profile and materials uploaded remain yours. You can remove your profile at any time by deleting your account.”Google has, through innovation and excellence, accrued a huge reserve of public goodwill. Retaining Orkut’s restrictive terms risks damaging the respected Google brand.
2. Allow a graduated acquaintance scale.
I accept “Friends” invitations only from people with whom I have had some prior contact. On Orkut, my list of friends contains people I see regularly, people I see irregularly, people I have met, people whom I have emailed, and one person whose site I follow, and who follows mine. In spite of this very low bar, I have not made connections with many of the people whose work I know, or who read my site.My rationale is that designating anyone who asks as a “Friend” completely strips the term of meaning. But promiscuous users have a point: What is the use of a social networking appliance if you use it only to list the people you already know? Without a graduated acquaintance scale, Orkut is reduced to being an extraneous address book or a redundant blogroll. Neither offers enough value to retain users once the novelty has worn away.
3. Let anyone be a fan.
I frequently admire people I haven’t met. Making “Fan” a function of “Friend” renders Orkut little more than a large, cliquish high school. Grownups won’t regard this service as anything but a novelty as long as it behaves like a teenager.
4. Stop promoting popularity contests.
Stop telling me to “rate my friends.” In fact, rethink your ranking criteria altogether. In a business or social context, “Trustworthy” might be a useful measure; “Cool” never will be. “Sexy” is a personal decision: no matter what others think, I’m going to make that decision for myself. Get rid of it.
5. Allow me to delete birthday reminders.
You are not going to induce me to send a card. Leave me alone.
6. Give users something to do with “Friends of Friends” besides spamming each other.
Help users reach members of their network in a more targeted way. Search is Google’s core competency. Allow users to search their network for keywords so they can connect with others for mutual benefit. Even better, devise a way to suggest connections between people with mutual interests or goals.
7. Add “Want” and “Have” categories to user profiles and find a way to search and match them among users.
Rival social network Ryze includes these categories in user profiles, but relies on individuals to find them by browsing. If I mention to everyone I know that I am looking for a used surfboard, I might find one, but I can do that without a computer. If I tell Orkut that I am looking for a surfboard, and Orkut directs me to a member who wants to get rid of one, that is a modern technology success.
8. Make all aspects of Orkut more configurable.
Allow members to specify the number of Communities that show on their homepage. Allow them to choose the number of forums that are listed for each Community they join. Allow forum posts to be read in ascending or descending order. Allow friends and community members to be sorted alphabetically, or in the order added.
9. Allow users to designate more than one industry on their professional profile.
Some people have several vocations and avocations; some have worked in numerous industries; and some are interested in moving to a different profession. Shape your service to real life.
10. Prompt users to add keywords to Communities as they create them.
This will allow Orkut to add “Related Communities” to every Community’s sidebar, further connecting people of like mind.
11. On my home page, show which of my Communities have been updated.
Simply bolding the title of updated forums would be effective and unobtrusive.
12. Improve your page-to-page navigation.
Place the “more” button on the bottom right, in order to evoke the turning of a page; the “back” button should be on the bottom left. Place any other buttons somewhere else entirely.
13. Make “My Network” useful.
“My Friends” contains a list of my Orkut friends. “My Network” contains the same list with less information, in a different order. Get rid of the second view or use it to give me information that is not contained in the first view. With a graduated relationship scale, “My Friends” (or “People I Know”) could include everyone I link to, and “My Network” could include everyone who links to me.
These thirteen changes alone won’t make Orkut the ultimate in social networking.

Term Life Insurance: Which Type is Right for You?
Introduction:
Generally speaking, there are three types of term life insurance from which to choose:
1)Level term insurance
2)Decrease term insurance
3)Annual renewable term insurance
1)Level Term Insurance:
With level term insurance, the death benefit protection you purchase is fixed, and remains the same for the entire term period. These term periods vary, but the most common are 10, 15, 20, and 30 years.
–>Premiums, payments you make to buy and keep your policy in force, differ depending on the guarantee in your policy. Some insurers guarantee level premiums throughout the life of the policy, while others guarantee premium amounts for a specified number of years. Still others do not come with a guarantee at all.
The insurer determines the yearly premium based on the sum of each year’s annual renewable term rates divided by the number of years in the term; included in that average is your age. As with any life insurance, premiums increase with age because of the higher risk of mortality.
–>Many level term policies include a renewal option. This enables you to renew your policy for a maximum guaranteed rate should you need to extend your coverage. Because you are older, the annual premium is likely to increase.
Remember to review your policy before signing, to confirm whether evidence of insurability is required to renew your term life policy. This clause becomes necessary only if your health deteriorates significantly while your policy is in force. If you have to provide proof of insurability again, poor health at the end of your term may prevent an insurer from renewing your policy.
2)Decrease term Insurance:
Also known as mortgage life insurance, decreasing term insurance is what its name suggests: throughout the life of the policy, the amount of death benefit protection decreases at a predetermined rate.
Policy payout reductions can occur monthly or annually. Premiums for such a policy remain level over the term period, which can range from 1 to 30 years.
–>The thought behind this type of term insurance is that as you get older certain liabilities no longer exist, and your family requires less money to maintain. If you do not have any other form of life insurance, a decreasing term insurance policy is generally not an advisable route. However, decreasing term insurance could be a good option for you if you have financial obligations, such as a mortgage or other amortized loan that decreases over time.In fact, the most common reason for acquiring decreasing term insurances is in the form of mortgage life insurance. When decreasing term insurance is purchased to cover a mortgage, the policy payout goes straight to the remaining balance on your home loan.
3)Annual renewable term Insurance:
Annual renewable term (ART) provides security in the form of a guaranteed insurance. Even though contracts are renewed on a yearly basis, you are guaranteed future insurability for a specified number of years–typically 10 to 30 years. The exact number of years set by an insurer is influenced by your age.
As with other life insurance, age is also factored into your premium. The longer you use annual term insurance, the more it costs. Premiums are paid every year based on a one-year contract, and each year those premiums rise as you age.
This yearly rise in premiums is the biggest difference between ART and level term insurance. It is important to keep in mind that the primary purpose of annual renewable term insurance is to accommodate short-term insurance needs.
Based on your situation and needs, there are a several options when it comes to term insurance. Whatever type you ultimately select, term life insurance is usually the most inexpensive life insurance option.

Festivals of India.
| Introduction:
Fairs and festivals are part of the everyday life of Indians just as anywhere else in the world. They mark harvesting and sowing and the time when peasants buy and sell and use the opportunity of congregating to have a good time, sing, dance, pray or even arrange marriages. The variety of India and its people makes for a riot of colour and spectacle, not untinged with boisterousness.India’s religious and ethnic diversity ensures that the major festivals of almost all the major religious groups in the world are celebrated in some part or even the whole country. Holi, Diwali, Id-ul-fitr, Christmas, Easter, Buddha Purnima, Guru Nanak Jayanti and many more occasions are celebrated with joy and religious fervour but with a distinct Indianness provided by the mingling of the various streams that make up the ocean of India. Indian festivals are unique pageants of colours, revelry and devotion. Given below is the list of some prominent festivals & events of India. List of Festivals:
Holi : Exberant festival of colours is celebration of the advent of spring.
Gangaur : Rajasthani spring festival in honour of Parvati, the consort of Shiva.
Id-ul-Fitr : Celebrated at the end of Ramzan, a month of fasting for Muslims.
Rath Yatra : Spectacular temple-festival in Puri, Orissa. Huge Chariots are taken out in honour of Lord Jagannath.
Id-ul-Zuha : Muslim festival to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice of his son in obedience to a command of God.
Janmashtami : Birth anniversary of Lord Krishna.

Nanotechnology use in Drug Delivery.
National Nanotechnology Initiative expects new commercial applications in the pharmaceutical industry that may include advanced drug delivery systems, new therapies, and in vivo imaging.Neuro-electronic interfaces and other nanoelectronics-based sensors are another active goal of research. Further down the line, the speculative field of molecular nanotechnology believes that cell repair machines could revolutionize medicine and the medical field. As the nanomedicine industry continues to grow, it is expected to have a significant impact on the economy.
Introduction:

Nanomedicine is the medical application of nanotechnology. The approaches to nanomedicine range from the medical use of nanomaterials, to nanoelectronic biosensors, and even possible future applications of molecular technology Current problems for nanomedicine involve understanding the issues related to toxicity and envirmental impact of nanoscale materials.Nanomedicine research is receiving funding from the US National Institute Of Health.Of note is the funding in 2005 of a five-year plan to set up four nanomedicine centers. In April 2006, the journal nature materials estimated that 130 nanotech-based drugs and delivery systems were being developed worldwide.
Overview:
Nanomedicine seeks to deliver a valuable set of research tools and clinically helpful devices in the near future.TheNanomedicine is a large industry, with nanomedicine sales reaching 6.8 billion dollars in 2004, and with over 200 companies and 38 products worldwide, a minimum of 3.8 billion dollars in nanotechnology R&D is being invested every year.

Medical use of nanomaterials:
Drug delivery:

Nanomedical approaches to drug delivery center on developing nano scale particles or molecules to improve the bioavailibility of a drug. Bioavailability refers to the presence of drug molecules where they are needed in the body and where they will do the most good. Drug delivery focuses on maximizing bioavailability both at specific places in the body and over a period of time. This will be achieved by molecular targeting by nanoengineered devices. It is all about targeting the molecules and delivering drugs with cell precision. More than $65 billion are wasted each year due to poor bioavailability. In vivo imaging is another area where tools and devices are being developed. Using nanoparticle contrast agent, images such as ultrasound and MRI have a favorable distribution and improved contrast. The new methods of nanoengineered materials that are being developed might be effective in treating illnesses and diseases such as cancer. What nanoscientists will be able to achieve in the future is beyond current imagination. This will be accomplished by self assembled biocompatible nanodevices that will detect, evaluate, treat and report to the clinical doctor automatically.

Drug delivery systems, lipid- or polymer-based nanoparticles, can be designed to improve the pharmalogical and therapeutic properties of drugs. The strength of drug delivery systems is their ability to alter the pharnacokinetics and bio distribution of the drug. Nanoparticles have unusual properties that can be used to improve drug delivery. Where larger particles would have been cleared from the body, cells take up these nanoparticles because of their size. Complex drug delivery mechanisms are being developed, including the ability to get drugs through cell membranes and into cell cytoplasm Efficiency is important because many diseases depend upon processes within the cell and can only be impeded by drugs that make their way into the cell. Triggered response is one way for drug molecules to be used more efficiently. Drugs are placed in the body and only activate on encountering a particular signal. For example, a drug with poor solubility will be replaced by a drug delivery system where both hydrophilic and hydrophobic environments exist, improving the solubility. Also, a drug may cause tissue damage, but with drug delivery, regulated drug release can eliminate the problem. If a drug is cleared too quickly from the body, this could force a patient to use high doses, but with drug delivery systems clearance can be reduced by altering the pharmacokinetics of the drug. Poor biodistribution is a problem that can affect normal tissues through widespread distribution, but the particulates from drug delivery systems lower the volume of distribution and reduce the effect on non-target tissue. Potential nanodrugs will work by very specific and well-understood mechanisms; one of the major impacts of nanotechnology and nanoscience will be in leading development of completely new drugs with more useful behavior and less side effects.
Knowledge Management, Types, and their Stages.

Introduction:
Knowledge Management (KM) comprises a range of practices used in an organization to identify, create, represent, distribute and enable adoption of insights and experiences. In other words, Knowledge Management is a process that, continuously and systematically, transfers knowledge from individuals and teams, who generate them, to the brain of the organization for the benefit of the entire organization.
objectives:
KM efforts typically focus on organizational objectives such as improved performance, competitive advantage, innovation, the sharing of lessons learned, and continuous improvement of the organization. KM efforts overlap with Organizational Learning, and may be distinguished from by a greater focus on the management of knowledge as a strategic asset and a focus on encouraging the exchange of knowledge.
Few KM Definitions:
–>>Prof. Gopinath defines the Knowledge Management in three different views:
- • Knowledge Management is a right principle for right application and right use.
- • Knowledge Management is a field of handling knowledge in different stages. It focuses around creation, capturing, nurturing, documenting, disseminating, absorbing and conserving for development of human resources.
- • Knowledge Management is a process of enriching human resource, material resource and environment preservation.
–>>R. Gregory Wenig defines KM from organizational perspective. According to his definition, Knowledge Management for the organization consists of activities focused on the organization gaining knowledge from its own experience and from the experience of others, and on the judicious application of that knowledge to fulfill the mission of the organization.
–>>Tom Davenport says KM is: “Process of capturing, distributing, and effectively using knowledge.
–>>Ellen Knapp defines KM as the art of transforming information and intellectual assets into enduring value for an organization’s clients and its people.
Types of Knowledge From Knowledge Management point And their Skills:
These are personalized skills possessed by individuals. Many times experts explicit their skills so that their knowledge can be used more effectively by users.
Cases are stories of real time events that give practical knowledge to the users. Thus we learn how the world works in real life. This is the best way to learn from previous mistakes and achieve from previous successes.Processes are supposed to be high-level skills that are systematized to provide most abstract form of knowledge. Out of many skills required for a work, few are worked out into processes to make them standards.
Stages of knowledge Management:
Three stages of Knowledge Management:
1.) The first stage of KM all about use of IT means intranets for knowledge sharing and coordination across the enterprise.
2.) The second stage added focus on human and cultural factors as essential in getting humans to implement KM.
3.) The third stage is the awareness of the importance of content- and, in particular, an awareness of the importance of the retrievability and therefore of the arrangement, description, and structure of that content.
Corporate Governance-where did it go?

Introduction:
“An internal system encompassing policies, processes and people, which serves the needs of shareholders and other stakeholders, by directing and controlling management activities with good business savvy, objectivity, accountability and integrity,” is the way Gabrielle O’Donovan defines corporate governance in, “A Board Culture of Corporate Governance.” “Corporate governance is most often viewed as both the structure and the relationships which determine corporate direction and performance,” according to corpgov.net. As you can see, delineating the phenomenon of corporate governance can be an obstacle in it of itself; now just imagine trying to instill a corporate governance policy within a company.
It is possible that the lack of a one unambiguous characterization of corporate governance is the foundation from which fraud has grown from over the past few decades; however, it is truly unlikely. Going back to the end of O’Donovan’s definition of corporate governance, the real growth place of fraud is a lack of objectivity, accountability and integrity within corporations. Corporate governance follows a hierarchical outline, with the Board of Directors at the top, then senior management, followed by internal auditors and finally external entities (Lawrence, Weber, Business and Society 12th Ed.). An organization’s corporate governance policy can only be as strong as its weakest practitioner, and the weakest practitioner can reside in any level of the hierarchy. How and/or why does a corporation’s governance policy fail?
Top look:
First look at the top, the Board of Directors level. The board is responsible with creating the company’s corporate governance policy, therefore they have no excuse as to why they wouldn’t know or follow the policies. This doesn’t imply that fraud doesn’t exist at the top level in anyway. Members of the Board of Directors of a company take-part in fraudulent activities for numerous reasons. First off, members of the board are voted on, and no qualifications exist. Anyone can be voted into a position of great power within an organization; so in reality, someone unfamiliar with business practices could easily take part in fraudulent activities and not even be aware of it. Another reason deceit is found with the Board of Directors is due to conflicts of interest. Board members, since anyone can be voted in, are sometimes on other company’s Board of Directors, or are sometimes the company’s senior management (Lawrence, Weber, Business and Society 12th Ed.). An example of a conflict of interest for a person who is part of senior management and on the board could be making a business decision that raises the company’s stock price, as the CEO this person is awarded stock options as part of their pay, while that decision did not fit in with the corporation’s governance policy. The person’s lack of integrity allowed them to make an immoral decision to create wealth for him or herself.
Blaming others:
Senior management is often to blame as well. A lot can lead a top manager within a company to breaking from the corporate governance policy. Career concerns or pride can foster decisions that a person, under normal conditions, wouldn’t make. For instance, if a manager is given a quota he or she has to reach in a certain time period, the pressure they feel to succeed may allow them to make an unethical decision. If they are under the belief that not reaching that quota is going to cost them their job, anything in the realm of possibilities to keep their job may be done. Another reason top management may look the other way when they know something that the CEO is doing is wrong is because they feel a deep loyalty to them. In the late 1960s, upper-management at Quasar Stellar Company knowingly allowed falsified records to be sent to the parent company, Universal Nucleonics Company, as directed by the CEO. When interviewed, Peter Loomis VP of Marketing said “I always felt that I owe more loyalty to my supervisor that to the company”.
The issue with internal auditors is pretty simple to understand. The people you constantly work with naturally become your friends. An internal auditor reports to the Board of Directors, people whom they rarely see, about the work of the senior management, the people that they work with day in and day out. Thus, a conflict of interest arises – does the internal auditor want to report to the board that management has falsified the reports and risk losing their friend, or do they want to let management get away with what they are doing and inform the board that all is well to keep their friends? It’s a tight line to walk, and sometimes corporate governance takes a backseat to friendship.
Construct a bussiness with coporate governance:
External entities, public accountants for example, also have an interest in fraudulent activities within a company. When public accountants audited a company in the past, they often did it for multiple years straight and a relationship formed between the company and public accountant. The relationship could grow, and in addition to auditing the company, the accountant would provide consulting services. The consulting services provided were much more lucrative than the auditing services, so naturally one would one to keep the company as a client for consulting. A conflict of interest presents itself because of this point; if the public accountant finds that the company is falsifying records, the company can threaten to revoke its desire for the consulting services from the accountant if the accountant reports them.
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 aimed to prevent this from happening, by including a provision which states that no auditor can also provide consulting services to the corporation in which they are auditing. The act also aimed at placing more blame on senior management with a provision that requires the CEO and CFO to sign off on the authenticity of financial statements. Sarbanes-Oxley also now requires at least one member of the Board of Directors audit committee to be a financial expert. Although the Sarbanes-Oxley Act has improved some of the failures in corporate governance, many complain about its costliness. And as it is easily
observed over the past few years, not all failures can be prevented. Businesses need to construct better corporate governance models, and individuals need to instill in themselves a stronger sense of accountability and integrity if the business world wants to see the end of fraudulent activities.
Processed Foods Linked to Lung Cancer.
Why do some people get lung cancer even if they never smoke?
New research suggests eating a lot of processed foods containing inorganic phosphates could be the explanation. What’s more, the study also suggests that dietary changes to avoid these chemical additives may play an important role in lung cancer treatment.
In research just published in the January issue of American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, published by the American Thoracic Society, scientists from Seoul National University conclude that a diet high in inorganic phosphates, which are found in a host of processed foods including meats, cheeses, beverages, and bakery products, might spur the growth of lung cancer. The researchers also suggest the food additive may contribute to the development of malignancies in people predisposed to lung cancer.
Studied by Students:
Myung-Haing Cho, D.V.M., Ph.D., and his colleagues studied mice with lung cancer tumors for four weeks. The rodents were randomly assigned to eat a diet of either 0.5 or 1.0 percent phosphate, a range roughly equivalent to what’s found in most modern human diets that contain processed foods. At the end of the study period, the animals’ lung tissues were analyzed to see what effects the inorganic phosphates had on tumors.Result:
“Our results clearly demonstrated that the diet higher in inorganic phosphates caused an increase in the size of the tumors and stimulated growth of the tumors,” Dr. Cho said in a statement to the press. “Our study indicates that increased intake of inorganic phosphates strongly stimulates lung cancer development in mice, and suggests that dietary regulation of inorganic phosphates may be critical for lung cancer treatment as well as prevention.”Result by centers:
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer deaths worldwide. The American Thoracic Society points out that over 75 percent of lung cancers are non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) and have an average overall 5-year survival rate of only about 14 percent. Previous research has shown that about 90 percent of NSCLC appear to be activated by specific signaling pathways in lung tissue. The new study by Dr. Cho and his research team found that high amounts of dietary inorganic phosphates actually stimulate those same cancer-triggering pathways.
In a statement to the media, John Heffner, M.D., past president of the American Thoracic Society, pointed out that this kind of research in animals can reveal the complex interactions between host factors and the environment that can result in human cancer. “We know that only some patients who smoke develop lung cancer but the reasons for this varying risk are unknown. This study now provides a rationale for funding case-control studies in humans to determine the potential role of dietary phosphates in promoting cancer,” Dr. Heffner stated.
While living organisms need a moderate level of phosphate, the use of inorganic phosphates as a food additive to increase water retention and improve food texture artificially has soared over the past decade. That means the average American diet is loaded with excess amounts of phosphates. “In the 1990s, phosphorous-containing food additives contributed an estimated 470 mg per day to the average daily adult diet. However, phosphates are currently being added much more frequently to a large number of processed foods, including meats, cheeses, beverages, and bakery products. As a result, depending on individual food choices, phosphorous intake could be increased by as much as 1000 mg per day,” Dr. Cho explained in the media statement.
William Wordsworth-Autobiography and Works
Introduction:

Wordsworth was born at Cockermouth in Cumberland on 7 April 1770. His parents were John Wordsworth and Ann Cookson. He was a second child to his parents amongst five children. His father was Sir James Lowther’s attorney, the 1st Earl of Lonsdale. His mother died when he was 8, and five years later, his father died too.He was very close to his younger sister Dorothy Wordsworth, who too became a famous poetess and diarist. His elder brother Richard Wordsworth became a lawyer, John, younger than Dorothy died in a ship wreck in 1805. The youngest one, Christopher became a scholar. William Wordsworth was very close to his sister. But he couldn’t stay in her company for long due to domestic problems after his father’s death.
His Education:

His early education was at a low level school at Cockermouth and was taught by his mother. He was taught poetry by his father. He taught him works of famous poets like Milton, Shakespeare, and Spenser. He was influenced from his child hood by his surroundings, which were picturesque. His father also allowed him to take benefit from his library. He also spent a lot of his time at his mother’s paternal home in Penrith. At Penrith, after his mother’s death he was sent to a school meant for the children of upper class. There he was taught by a lady Ann Birkett who used to teach her students the traditional and classical aspects of literature. This proved to be an important influence on his literary work.
Starting his Literature work:
In 1787, he published his first sonnet in “The European Magazine”, starting his journey as a poet. In 1791, he went on summer vacations, visiting places famous for their picturesque beauty. These included Switzerland, France, Europe and Italy. In France he fell in love with a French girl named Annette Vallon, who bore him a baby girl in 1792. Due to critical circumstances he didn’t marry her, but kept on supporting her and her daughter throughout his life.
French Revolution proved influential for his ideas and mental growth. He started understanding politics and its influences on common people, evoking sympathy for common people. After getting these experiences he composed his most remarkable poem “Descriptive Sketches”. Though, he calls his early work as “experimental”. His renowned poems include “An Evening Walk”, “Guilt And Sorrow”, “Lyrical Ballads” and “Tintern Abbey”. “Lyrical Ballads” was a joint venture of Wordsworth and S.T Coleridge, which was a result of their close friendship.

Most of Wordsworth’s work emphasizes on depth and sensitivity of human nature. His “Lyrical Ballads” were regarded as “the gaudiness and inane phraseology of many modern writers”. His diction in all his poems is simple, and he dealt the subject with realism. His other famous poems are: “To The Cuckoo”, “The Rainbow”; “To a Butterfly”, “Ecclesiastical Sonnets”, and “The Prelude”. His poems in “Lyrical ballads Vein” project “the still, sad music of humanity”.
His Death:

In his later life, Wordsworth developed an estrangement with Coleridge. This deprived him of his powerful imaginative and mental sharpness, leaving him alone. In 1843 he got appointed as England’s poet laureate, and he died on April 23, 1850.
World’s Thinnest Laptop: Dell Adamo XPS
Introduction:

Size Zero isn’t just for the catwalk. Heavily hyped with more than a few teasers from Dell, the computer giant has finally launched its wafer-slim Dell Adamo XPS in time for the Christmas market. The third in the Adamo series, there’s no doubt Dell’s aim with this machine is to give arch rival Apple MacBook Air a run for its money. And the launch follows in the wake of super-thin machines such as the Sony Vaio X range.
Features:

Billed as the world’s thinnest laptop, the Dell Adamo XPS is just 9.9mm thick and weighs in at less than 1.5kg.And this latest product shaves nearly 5mm off the size of last year’s Adamo. Described by some as a work of art or a feat of engineering rather than a functional laptop, a stand at the back of the machine slants the keyboard at an angle towards the user and rests on top of the battery. While this should help with overheating problems by allowing air to circulate, users may find balancing the XPS on their laps uncomfortable. This laptop, measuring 34mm by nearly 275, doesn’t open with a conventional mechanical button release. Instead you move your fingers over a heat sensor to release the full-size aluminium keyboard and watch the laptop unfold itself.
